Just wanna dredge creeks or rivers with my partner, using a 2 inch nozzle, Also does anyone know if i can get cheaper permits to prospect, then mine it, $1600 to just prospect then $3200 to dredge it, is that depending on the size of the area? . My old man used to do it, he just asked farmers and dredged, ill just be dredging on the weekends as im from chch, Anyone with any information will be much appreciated, Thanks

G'day billz, The days when your "old man used to do it" by just asking farmers has long gone (unfortunately). Although I wouldn't rule out the possibility that there might be one or two West Coast farmers out there who might let someone ( they know ) dredge on their property. There are just so many possible negative outcomes for farmers that most would, these days, just find it much simpler to refuse permission. Your best chance would be get permission from a claim owner to dredge on their claim (Mining Permit). But, again, there are so many potential negative outcomes for the claim owner that most would not risk letting someone else on their claim. A claim owner would be mostly concerned that anyone they did not know might possible contravene one of the claim conditions. And if a claim condition is broken, its the claim owner alone who suffers the consequences (fines, loss of the claim, being banned from ever being able to apply for a claim ever again, etc., etc.). I'm not advocating, here on a public forum, that someone dredge illegally, however ... nearly all the men who dredge recreationally with small dredges on the West Coast do it as an unauthorised mining activity. If anyone were to dredge illegally they would have to use their common sense (such as not dredging on one of the declared hand fossicking claims, keeping out of sight of a road, etc. etc.). New Zealand is a small place, and the West Coast is a small place with a small population, so its difficult to keep anything under the radar without taking considered precautions. Its been discussed for many years now among Kiwi recreational dredgers that they should get together and apply for a claim where someone like yourself could go for a weekend of fun with others who use small recreational dredges exclusively. I've put such a proposal in submissions to the government and its something that's discussed regularly among dredgers, but no one has done anything to actually bring it about. There are areas, such as the West Coasts Moonlight river, above and below the fossicking claim that would be perfect for such a claim. But I doubt I'll ever see it in my lifetime. golddredgingforum.proboards.com/thread/206golddredgingforum.proboards.com/thread/1195/visiting-miner-seeking-contactgolddredgingforum.proboards.com/thread/1031/crown-minerals-permitting-land-billgolddredgingforum.proboards.com/thread/952/claim-jumpersgolddredgingforum.proboards.com/thread/906/apply-gold-prospecting-licencegolddredgingforum.proboards.com/thread/629/rivers-removed-prospecting-permitsgolddredgingforum.proboards.com/thread/1242/gold-claimYou might be able to find someone on the recreational forums to dredge with or to dredge on a recreational claim. BTW It would cost much more to establish a legal claim than the figures you mention in your post. Regards, Rob (RKC)

If you partner with me or any legitimate creek owner in Liberia, you can dredge with USD3200 for three to four months. This amount represents permit cost not operational expenses
