"Report on the role of Eductor Dredging in the Queensland Mining Industry" by Michael Frankcombe, Environmental officer, Cairns.
From the late 1990s.

" ... results from the Mitchell River, Queensland trial
suggests that the operation of an eductor dredge
had little impact on the turbidity of the stream. One peak
recording of 4.0 NTU was found
at one time close to the dredge, but
remaining values were comparable with background
turbidity readings of 1.0 NTU upstream and 0.5 NTU
downstream. Even the peak recorded value was deemed
insignificant when compared to turbidity produced by
the operation of a sluice (22-30 NTU) or levels in the
river at times of flood (70-80 NTU)."

and "... Eductor dredging is an environmentally
sound small mining operation that should be legalised in Queensland."

Hi RKC,

Cruel. The report (and others) gives EGDing the big tick while the political establishment give it the big kick. Not good.

Natural variability within the system, delivers far greater disturbance to the waterways. A point rarely emphasised not only with EGDing but in many, many environmental issues and associated reporting regimes. Politics has removed natural variability from the environment because it is to good a reality check or comparison guide, to say, human activity and associatted disturbance. Mountain rivers are a high end disturbance regime (that make sense?), hence not one sign of past EGDing activity in Victoria. The whole lot has been redisturbed by nature on a massive scale and resorted and redeposited blah, blah.

But I know you know this so I’ll stop there before I really start whinging.

However, I must say I think people are rapidly waking up to the greens and co. ie/ Greens are very loose with the truth. Have these greens done anything for the environment? I don’t think so. They are all symbolism. People are getting sick of them. In Victoria we have had 3 large wildfires in the last decade. The loss of fauna species would run into the tens of millions. Not a peep from the greens and co. People are waking up to these charlatans.
