Hello I came across these panels 15 years ago on a wash up table on a large alluvial operation. Easy to clean up and good recovery. On this I came across an old timer feeding a small sluice box on our claim the other day. There was no carpet in the box but instead he was using a rubber car floor mat bought from Repco. The pattern was identical to that of the Hazelwerdt sluice mats. After 3 spade fulls you could see the gold in the box. I was shocked just how well it worked. The larger flaky gold appeared to adhere itself to the rubber mats. Any way for $18 it is probably worth a look. The recovery was as good as my beech box set up which will catch almost anything. Cheers

G’day Vaughan (VJG73),
Thanks for the post! For a number of years now I’ve been keeping my eyes out for a mat I could purchase similar to the Hazelwerdt mat, but have not been able to find anything similar in New Zealand. I remember once seeing a car floor mat at Repco in Greymouth with the diamond pattern, and although it looked somewhat similar to the Hazelwerdt mat from a distance, I though at the time it would not be suitable to use in a sluice box. I’ll go up to Repco and have another look at it … it might be worth a try. I’ll get a photo of it to compare it up close with the Hazelwerdt mat in the photos on the brochure. Regards, Rob (RKC)

Hi all,
I don't know what these Hazelwerdt mats are but we used the rubber "car mat" type mats about twenty years ago for washing up after each days processing with a 5' trommel ....about two fish boxes full of cons. Our box was about one foot wide and about four feet long with sides around three inches high with this car mat siliconed to the box. It worked really well ....too well as you had to tip it nearly vertical to wash it out!!. With experimentation you should be able to get your wash-up really clean and with little black sand.
Regards D.H
