Gidday Rob
I am very bravely applying to Dept. of DoC. for Access to out Mining Permit Area.
I have been informed by the nice Man at the Dept. that other Applicants have 3mm Fish Screens on their 8 inch Dredges to mitigate the silt discharge. I had to admit my ignorance concerning this subject as I have never heard of having a Fish Screen on a Dredge. Foolish me. !
Can anyone help me with this. ? Please.

G'day Jet,
The DoC fifth column must have run out of ways to further delay and hinder the consenting process. Now they are inventing additional hoops for miners to jump through!

Fish screen ! never heard of that , perhaps its basically a fine screen similar to whitebait mesh that sits vertical a couple of feet behind the dredge , cant imagine any game changing benefit but hey this is the F up times we are living in , as for access be prepared to wait it out seemly they say they have a 20 day processing time I think its times 3 that for me and counting , about the only good news atm is as it stands nothing has changed and by the sounds of it it could be a while till they sort out what ever it is the govt have got them self's and us into , another thing to add is its not just us under the thumb its rite across the board .

Gidday Rob and Boaraxa.
Thanks Guys. Kinda like I was thinking. Maybe it is the Paperwork that develops Jobs. ? Only thing is, is that in the long run our economy needs "sweat on brow and dirt under the fingernails" to pay the Tax for the bureaucracy to exist. They are sucking the public Titty dry.
As for the DoC. Permit processing, they have been very efficient. I really had my reservations that we would get the Access Agreement, under the present EcoLoons but I am feeling a little more hopeful.
Maybe Dredging in a Month, weather depending. We are really keen to make our contribution to the public titty Fund. Hehehe.
If anyone else reads this posting and can advise us, we would all be keen to add to the Dredging knowledge base.

G'day all,
The aim of DoC is to eventually have total control of all freshwater rivers and streams, except those presently under Maori management. And until then, government bureaucrats (including NZP&M bureaucrats ) will delay the granting of river Mining Permits as much as they can without being too overt and obvious about it. So ... there wont be an admission of this by DoC until they are sure it can be achieved, and in the meantime it will appear that Permits are still being granted. But it's all political theater!
The funniest part of all this political theater is that its probably unnecessary as things stand politically at present in Godzone. There is currently so much power in the hands of the Left, and significantly The Greens, they could probably do it now by just passing legislation. They don't have to worry too much about losing the next election with one opposition party (National) that is in so much turmoil they might even lose the next two elections.
It's not difficult to imagine what would happen to river Mining once DoC has total control of New Zealand's rivers and streams.
The only event that might prevent DoC controling rivers and streams, wether in the short term or by stealth in the long term, is another Global Financial Crises. The next GFC is inevitably (although no one knows when) and is certain to be much worse than the last in 2008.

isn't the fish screen on the venturi intake, to stop fish getting sucked into the dredge, rather than at the outlet end??
