G'day Homesouth, That's a fascinating collection of New Zealand history and I agree that these documents should be in a museum so they can remain in New Zealand forever. And The Settlers Museum in Dunedin ( www.dunedin.govt.nz/facilities/otago-settlers-museum ) or the Lakes Museum ( www.museumqueenstown.com/ ) would be a good place for them to be put on display. They are probably not suitably PC for somewhere like Te Papa ( www.tepapa.govt.nz/Tepapa/English/ ) and unfortunately its the museums like Te Papa that have the largest budgets for purchasing. Regards, Rob (RKC)

I wonder what he would want for it? Maybe we could do a whipround GDF members and donate it as a group with all the associated press etc. May give us miners some good press for a change. Only of interest local miners I spose and may open a can of worms but ..... just a thought

G,day Homesouth,
I made some enquiries today and someone who knows the history of the area as well as anyone alive informed me that, It seems when the Seffers vacated Seffer town they just walked out and items were then taken by trampers to the area over the next 20 or so years so the stuff got scattered all over the place. The Moke Creek library there, also had large numbers of books ( The classics) which were also left ...One of the brothers was a great reader."

Hi Rob, yes there must have been a fair bit still there in the 50's my great uncle mined up there for a few years and he made mention of the "classics" being still there.

Well that went for some good money bad luck JW. How come its the same people making post on the forum? surely other members have some stories or pics. On that note Rob I have a quite a few pics of plants around the south island, not sure if some of the owners would be happy having them on the net but happy to send to you if you want them. Cheers Mark

G'day Homesouth,
The Moke creek "DOCUMENTS AND PHOTOGRAPHS" on TradeMe did not sell as the reserve price of $650 was not reached. It will be interesting to see if the auction is re listed.
Please post the photos you have of plants working in the South Island. If you want me to host them on my Photobucket account I can do that and then send you the URLs for you to put in a post on the forum.
Regards, Rob (RKC)
