Hi all, new to this site. I just built my own 3 inch dredge and i run it off a harbor freight pump. I am looking at buying brand new pontoons but cant decide if the keene 2.5 inch dredge pontoons would work, or if keene is just trying to get me to spend the money on the 4 inch mini/ 3 inch floats. any help is appreciated, thanks, Nick

G'day nick, Its well worth while buying floats from a retail outlet like Keene. The only problem I have ever had with Keene floats is that they could have been a little bigger to provide better flotation. The big mistake made by miners who build their own dredges is often to try to save a bit of money by using flotation such as plastic containers. You don't say what country you are from, but if you are in New Zealand companies like DredgeNZ can offer good suggestions for commercially made floats to suit the dredge being built. I would always personally go for more flotation than what is considered a conventional size. It might be worthwhile having a look through this thread ... golddredgingforum.proboards.com/thread/104/building-small-dredge?page=1Regards, Rob (RKC)

Gday nick, I bought my floats from Indac, Picton and found them to be just what I needed. They are robust, Light and have awesome buoyancy and the only alteration I dfid was to redrill the attachment holes to 10mm.Will post a couple pics for you to peruse. Cheers, addergran.
