G'day, West Coast 'action plan' promises money for toilets, roads, walking tracks, mining researchNEW MINING RESEARCH INSTITUTE
The action plan included $11m for a research institute, which would "unlock the potential of New Zealand's minerals resources", Science and Innovation Minister Paul Goldsmith said.
The institute would look at ways to better extract value from mining processes to make the industry more viable.
"Mining is and will continue to be an important part of the West Coast' economy, its history and its DNA." i.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/west-coast/94690784/west-coast-action-plan-promises-money-for-toilets-roads-walking-tracksRegards, Rob (RKC)

West Coast Economic Development Action Plan 2017Single window regulatory processing initiative To mine an area, developers currently need some or all of the following: • Crown Minerals permit from the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment • Resource consents from the District and/or Regional Councils • Concession agreements and land access agreements from the Department of Conservation and/or Land Information New Zealand when mining on Crown land • Access arrangements with the landowner, which in some cases is Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu • Approval from WorkSafe depending on the status of the proposed operation • On occasion an approval from the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. This typically involves a long and sequential process through several of these regulatory approval processes, which often have over-lapping requirements. A delay or an appeal at any one of the stages can result in significant delays to the remaining stages and the full process. It is possible for applicants to apply for several consents or permissions at the same time but this can still be time consuming if organisations interpret requirements and evidence differently. This action is focused on identifying and developing, within existing legislative settings, a ‘single window’ or coordinated process across agencies for: • Information requests and assessments of documentation related to permits, access agreements, resource consents and concessions • Public notifications, community and iwi consultation • Support for resource consent hearings.www.wcrc.govt.nz/our-council/news/Pages/West-Coast-Economic-Development-Action-Plan-2017.aspx

G'day, Peters raises doubts over announcement.Mr Peters said the announcement of the action plan espoused National's "blue-green anti-mining agenda" which would cost the region even more jobs. "When Science and Innovation Minister Paul Goldsmith said mining is part of the Coasts DNA, why did he omit the part where minister Bridges has ordered a stop to mining permits being issued or renewed on large swathes of the West coast?"
"The truth comes from a 2015 meeting between Minister Bridges and the West Coast Regional Council. At that meeting, the council's chairman and chief executive were told by Minister Bridges that no permits would be issued or renewed on land blanketed by the West Coast's World Heritage area. This includes hundreds of thousands of hectares of non-Schedule 4 conservation land."or at ... imageshack.com/a/img924/9206/rCvcxU.jpgRegards, Rob (RKC)
