Hi all I have two thomas t80 compressors and I seem to have problems with the con rod bearing chopping out the crank. I always keep my bearings well greased, I am wondering is this a common problem with the thomas. If it is, is there ways to fix this.

G,day Timbarra , Once these Thomas compressors develop major maintenance problems like you are experiencing they are best replaced with a new compressor. The T80 Thomas compressors were originally designed for spray painting and were never intended for the type of long term use that many dredgers subject them to. They do however require some simple maintenance such as taking the head off to occasionally clean corrosion from water-effected aluminium and to make sure the intake reed valve is working and not sticking. www.treasureenterprises.com/Prospect%20Equipment/Prosp%20Equip%20Photos/T80_Parts.gifRegards, Rob (RKC)

I have found the biggest problem with the Thomas compressor is the base mounting screws. The body is cast alloy they are really easy to strip when you adjust for belt tightness.

G'day Cobungragold , I've had the same problem with the Thomas T80 compressors. And prior to a compressor being used a bit of preventive maintenance to strengthen the "base mounting", would probably be worthwhile . And one way to strengthen the threads would be to insert stainless steel screw thread inserts ( www.emhart.com/products/helicoil.asp ). Also, something I once did was to permanently attach a steel base plate to the compressor and bolt the steel base plate to the dredge frame. Regards, Rob (RKC)
