I have come across/obtained a Jessie pump... close to 41mm intake & 28mm discharge. What capacity is this pump and what size dredge would it have been used on? Thanks.

More info required, even a picture would help. could be anything from the small 2.5HP powered P90 (90 gallon) to the p200? equivalent to Keens P180, this will work a 4" dredge. although I some times re-machine them and bolt them to a 6.5hp motor for a 5" dredge. DR.

G'day, Jessie pumps are an Australian pump that were sold in the 1980s and which have not been made for many years now. Its a great find to get your hands on one these days! They are an excellent pump, as good, or better, than most dredge pumps available these days. They are a good buy second hand as there is not much that could have worn out, other than the seal ... even if they were subject to a lot of work. If I remember correctly there were two models made. One, the small one, went on 5 hp motors. The other, which I have used, went on motors with a 1" shaft. I have one of the larger ones which I have no more use for. I think this is the small one, but ... I'm not certain. I should have the specks somewhere. If I can find them (I'll look when I get time). Regards, Rob (RKC)

G'day, I vaguley remember something about Miners Den in Melbourne buying the pump moulds from Jessie and then selling the pump themselves. Does anyone in Australia know if they are currently selling Jessie branded pumps? If they are, the specks could differ from the original Jessie pumps sold by Jessie himself. Regards, Rob (RKC)

G'day reco,
My old Jessie pump is in New Zealand, so ... it would not be economical to ship it to Cairns (Australia). There must be quiet a few of the old larger Jessie pumps in Australia. Maybe someone, in Australia, who still has one they want to sell will contact you after seeing this post.
Yes, your pump is the small one for a 5HP motor.

Does anyone in Australia know if they are currently selling Jessie branded pumps? Miners Den isn't what it used to be , much smaller shop selling mostly all detecting gear now , pans and classifiers for alluvial .

Hi There Rob and other members I managed Miners Den Melbourne from 1998 to 2010 and even back in 1998 Jessie pumps were ancient and no longer made. When I took over I tried to get new pumps made then but due to squabbling between the various sub trades needed to make and machine them it never happened so I started importing Keene Engineering gear from the US. and still do (see my website www.prospectingsupplies.com.au ). Rob I know you have always had an inbuilt bias against Keene gear but have you seen any of it in recent years - it`s pretty good gear ! They have been in business for over sixty years and are by far the worlds largest manufacturer of small to medium sized dredging gear and of course other gear like rock crushers dryblowers highbankers and so on see our website www.prospectingsupplies.com.au for the range of gear we carry which is only a small selection from Keene `s total range and from other suppliers as well - I don`t have an aircraft hanger so can only carry a select range of commonly sought items . If you or any members want gear please email us on prospectingsupplies@bigpond.com and we will see if we can help or refer you onto someone else who can and if reco is still wanting a pump we have Keene P180s in stock.. Cheers Geoff Strang Melbourne

But, before Greg Wilson was selling these pumps they were designed and manufactured by a guy with the first name Jessie, in Melbourne (Victoria). Jessie had a shop in Melbourne from which he sold these pumps along with most other dredging equipment. I visited the shop when I was dredging in Victoria in the 80s and bought some gear. Then Jessie went out of business (after which Greg must have acquired the molds for the Pumps). In some of the advertising published by Greg (in above post at Jun 30, 2016 at 9:57am ) when he had the prospecting shop at Parramatta (Sydney) he referees to Jessie as the original designed of the pumps in question. I am fairly sure I heard Jessie himself passed away a few years back. Miners Den must have had some involvement with the pumps in question as a Kiwi dredger I know quiet well bought a Jessie pumps from Miners Den some years back (the pump is pictured above). Regards, Rob (RKC)

Hi David. I have Known your dad and family from the first day they took over the shop in Parramatta, at the young age of about 30 to attending his funeral, very hard working man, missed by a lot of people, often wondered how you got on after Greg,s passing, Hope you are all OK. Anyway not long taking the shop over Your Grandad Ron had go on the Nozzle of my 5" dredge and I could not get him off of it, he really enjoyed himself. Later Greg acquired Jessie molds and gear and the rest is history, Will send you a private email.. Regards R.
