Well in between getting bitten by sandflies and waiting for the river to come down we had a poke round in a few holes. Managed to pull out 3 Penny Weights out of a couple of holes. Great fun, anyway off to the hospital now to get a blood transfusion to replace what the sandflies sucked out of me Cheers

Hi Vaughn, Used to love finding these in the clutha above cromwell before the dam flooded everything. We would find them up to a meter in diameter and a meter deep. Sometimes they would have ounces in them just black sand and yellow. Is the Buller still too high to dredge ? Cheers Mark

Mark Well im picking the Buller is still up, came home Yesterday and the Maruia was bank to bank. There was some cracker thunder storms up in the hills. The tent was lighting up like a christmas tree.. I saw another 6 inch dredge kicking around Murch not to sure where they were playing around. We just used a shovel to dig out the holes but we tidyed up the bottom with a small 1 inch nozzle and a washing jet into a bucket.. February is usually good the weather is a little more settled, Friend has a new Helecopter turning up soon with 400kg lift so we will be able to get into the tight spots now.. Cheers
