Hi all - was just talking with GMRigger this morning and he advised me of the forum. Have had a bit of a browse since yapping with Gary and it is good to see a 'local'' forum for us to use. Rob i liked the threads on the older Treasure pumps and it was good to see where they originated - I have one that still has its sticker on it from where it was purchased 'Molyneaux Marine' in Alexandra - an old guy 'Mac McGinty' had it hooked to a small 4" unit that I bought from him nearly 30 years ago now. I did this year take the 5hp Honda off it and matched it on to one of the 6.5hp Honda pattern motors that I import from China. What a difference the bit of extra power has made to the pump and to fuel consumption. I fitted some China seals to it that fitted nicely - had a local guy here in Naseby machine the thread in the impellor to fit the new motor and all is good. I see that you have my gold page link in as Geocities - I have a new site on board here in NZ it is < www.nasebygold.co.nz > it has most of what the Geocities site has got but is devoted mainly to my gold dredging/mining. Have not done a lot so far this year as I have been out of the country and now having just had a hernia op; sees me laying back until sometime in Jan this coming year. Cheers all keep up the posting - Thanks again Rob for sticking to that idea you ran past me a few years back now - it is great to see it in fruition.

G'day Alan, Good to have you join. I guess the pump you refer to above as as a "Treasure" pump must be this old pump img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/Coochee/7c034b8f.jpg?t=1229555934that used to be sold with the Suitcase dredge. There was some confusion about what to call it on the old MSN forum ... and I ended up being more confused than anyone else. I finally resorted to referring to it as the "Blue pump" to simplify and clarify. But, recently, to further confuse me I think that Gavin (GMrigger) referred to it as a Swimjoy pump. Anyway ... this pump is now ancient history as no its longer being sold. What can you tell us about the Chinese motors you import? The Chinese motors I particularly like are the ones sold by Topmag as they are an exact copy of the Honda motors and Honda parts can therefore be used. I'm yet to hear any reports on the Chinese knock-off motors after they have been in use for a good length of time. There was a post on the old MSN forum from Lubo who said that he is successfully using the latest Briggs and Stratton motors and they have proved much more preferable for long use compared to other brands such as Honda's. A recreational dredger would probably always go for the less expensive motor and might even get away with using a motor that does not have a long life span, but a professional (especially a professional working somewhere remote like PNG) must only use motors with a long life span. For a dredge motor to prove itself somewhere like PNG must be the best recommendation possible and thats probably all I would need to convince me to use Briggs motors on any production dredge I might build. Regards, Rob (RKC)

Hi Rob = yes the old and faithful Briggs... They are getting better as the years go on. I am not too suree though of their life span as aginst a Honda of the same year. The Treasure emporium that i was referring to had an original Honda 5hp on it and it was two years old when bought it off Mac - this was 1980 as i recall. During the time it was on the go it would run **** near flat out when i was dredging with my step ladder 5" suction nozzle system. It did give great service and I sort of looked after it.... I sold it on trade me a few months back and the guy that bought it is as happy as with it. I did in the latter years run two treasure emporium pumps on my 5" - both motors were in series one doing the pick up and feeding the second motor that feed the jet... I gained around 15 to 20 percent better pressure through the jet. The new china motors... The ones at top mac are the same as I have but are made in another company. The parent company that i buy from is 'Launtop' and they set up a subsidary company to onsell to Canada called 'Mellga' and this is the brand that i sell. I have seen a lot of differences in China product over the last 6 years that I have been selling it - all for the better. If you look after them - do the oil changes when needed they will give the service. Over the 6 years that I have been selling I have had two failures and both not a real fault of the motors. . The threads on the shafts of the water pump motors is I think BSP - not too sure but this can be found out easily enough. Cheers for now Allan.
