G’day Members,
In the thread “Building a small dredge” that was on the old MSN forum I made a post which said …“G'day Vaughan ( <NOBR> VJG73</NOBR> ),Thanks for that ... its very helpful! In my post above (64) I referred to a "reducer" ... I'm not sure if I have the terminology correct. Does anyone know the correct term for the ring that goes around the nozzle intake to reduce the size of the intake. If I get time later today I'll have a look around some of the recreational gold forums to see if I can find the answer.”
The question of the correct terminology to use when referring to the ring that goes around the nozzle intake to reduce the size of the intake was not resolved and I’ve been wondering since what word I should have used. Well … yesterday, when I was viewing the Dahlke dredge web site I came across the correct terminology. The words I should have been using are “ restrictor ring”. I’m confident it is the correct term because it came from a credible source … namely the web site of an established dredge manufacturer. The page I first saw it on is
www.dahlkedredge.com/4microb.htm
I then did a web search for “restrictor ring” and found another reference at
www.akmining.com/mine/drparts.htm when referring to a Keene swivel nozzle. So I’m confident it’s the correct terminology.
It is important to get terminology right as there is no surer way to confuse a discussion than if the terminology is not correct … and a confused discussion will not achieve anything.
Regards,
Rob (RKC)
