Seems it might have already happened Was told a large australian company has had conservation estate on the west coast pegged off for some time. You dont pay rent for nothing Looks like this might have driven Brownley to look at opening consevation ground.

G'day Homesouth,
After reading about the governments proposed change of policy I was immediately remindered of an area that I've always thought should be reconsidered for mining. And that area is the spectacular gold deposit that the Blackadder's found near Spring Junction back a great number of years ago now which they only prospected and were never able to mine. Its not in a National Park, or is an area of particular conservation value. If I remember correctly the go ahead for mining was soley refused on the grounds that the vegetation was native forest. However, while it could be said to be native forest, its all regrowth with no trees of any great age. I will see if I can find the newspaper articles about the find and post them here in this thread.
I had better add that there is a current claim (Mining Permit) over the ground that I suspect has been maintained just in case there was a change of heart by government, such as this, to ever eventuate.
Regards, Rob (RKC)

he he we think alike ;D Was talking to another member of GDF yesterday and were making comment on the same area. Interesting times about time someone took alook at Docs stranglehold on mining ground their estate has increased dramatically in the last few years with tenure revue etc they have more land than they can manage.

Ugh. The media flies have moved from one hysteria to another. www.stuff.co.nz/business/2837991/Global-giants-eye-7-billion-Kiwi-bonanzaWatch the environmental zombies swing into life after reading some of these headlines. Get prepared to be bush-wacked in a busy mall by a hippy ready to take your credit card details. We’ve moved too far from people who make real things. Cities are bastions of glam, ringed by suburbia on steroids, cemented together with the wisps of internet. We’re too far from the reality of the slaughter on a farm. People no longer appreciate the vibration and noise of a 10-stamper near their home. The sickly sweet stink of a cane mill means money is coming home soon. Here’s to dust in your eyes and a twinge of back ache.
