Hi guys so I got a letter yesterday from worksafe about Quarry & Alluvial mine operations there were a few inaccuracies , but the gist of it was a certificate of competence maybe required so I rung the lady and explained there are no diggers or dump trucks but by definition shes trying to say its an alluvial mine so I pointed out how will the public fossicking areas comply they 2 are mines , **** just keeps coming , has anyone else received a letter from them ?

So after posting the above it got me thinking as the letter specifically mentioned an exact location & the penny dropped , so worksafe had a contractor driving around the country looking at mine sights and I completely forgot about a now disused aggregate sight close to my MP so the worksafe bloke took a look at it & presumed it to be mine !!...so I don't need a certificate .

G'day boarax, Well ... I guess that is good news! Their stuff-up needs to be pointed out to them. If for nothing else so they can learn the difference between an alluvial mine and a quarry! The recent change in government has probably made the bureaucracy feel more empowered to advance their agenda of introducing more and more hoops to make the miners jump through, and slow them down, until the blanket ban on mining on conservation estate is introduced. There are signs that the economy is starting to tank, which might make those who voted for Labor and NZ first at the last election rethink who they will vote for at the next election. The intention of Work safe is to take control of your business through legislation..it does not have to make sense... its all about the hand of control.

G'day mtcook, Government is by definition " the hand of control" ... and a dead hand at that! Adams Smiths invisible hand works on all levels, whereas governments dead hand, holds everyone back and prevents natural progress which enables a slowly rising tide that raises all out of poverty. Gday all, Yes Rob, I agree that the Government is the " Hand of Control." But pray tell me, as I must be so dumb, who are they supposed to controlling?. They sure have No control of the Departments they setup to control. I still can't get my head around the way the claim leases are leased out by P&M. It just bugs the hell out of me, to think I have to pay for a lease, then get consent from those around or in the vicinity of it, to work it. It's akin to renting a house, then having to get the consent from the neighbours, to live there. This is a case of bureaucracy gone amuck. If P&M have control of this area of lease then it should have all the compliances in place beforehand. When all said and done They are the Receivers of any benefits that the claim produces, win or lose. And to read of this latest rush of inspiration by them, just makes me wonder, where the hell has all that inspiration of fixing this and and making that right, while pouring out the spiel from the podium before the election, has disappeared to. God defend New Zealand. Adderman

There has been an unholy gathering of incompetence in the corridors of bureaucracy and public life. It is the only place flagrant incompetence can survive. In the real world, say on a claim, such people would quickly go broke. Or, they would be broken. The reality of a cold river, hard work, and heavy rocks would crush them. Worksafe attracts a core of weak. It was once an honour to serve the people through public life. Now not so much.
If you would become a serf again, like our great grandparents, submit to the new tyrants. The feudal overlords.
Else, respectfully, through minimum nececessary belligerence, push back. Argue. Fight. They expect submission. Like the great mike Tyson said, everyone has a plan until you punch them in the face. Metaphorically. Peace.

My understanding from someone on the paydirt site was that Teir 2 mines were exempt from complying, some one gave me someone to ask so naturally I swept it under the carpet.
