From: homesouth2 Sent: 26/07/2008 6:02 p.m. This crap has got to stop !!!!!! In Otago we have a Canadian company that has blanket claimed **** near the whole provence. They have sterilised everything for at least 2 years. To rub salt in the wound the Otago Regional Council gave them a million of our dollars to do a survey ( no wonder they charge us so much for consents). When we ask for any results from our paid for survey they play dumb. We now have to go cap in hand to a bunch of foreigners to ask permission to be able to peg out our own country. When mines department was approached on why they let it thru they replied that no one complained, I get the impression they would like one company to have the whole of the country. Any way we have to fight this with everything we have.

From: alluvial0 Sent: 3/08/2008 11:34 a.m. Hi all, Maybe this price rise of gold isnt such a good thing, to the extent that it attracts these wealthy mega giant companies that have millions to throw around & flex their muscle. Squeezing out the one or two man "local" miner, dredger, (weather he be doing it for a living or the ever more popular hobby recreational miner) by blanket claiming all the ground. Money talks to governments ... I just wonder that if this company gets the go ahead ... 2 years ... that could grow & it maybe only the thin edge of the wedge. How would they police their ground from say the hobby miner? It is a bit like now....the hobby miner is only at it weekends or maybe on his annual holiday from his day time job. The hobby miner generally just "sneaks" in an does what he does....& "sneaks" out again without the "legal" right to do what he is doing. The powers to be know this happens but turn a blind eye to it in most cases as it is such a small operation & only a spit in the ocean. Although I suspect it is becoming a bit more common now with the price rise of gold..... I wonder if the few are going to stuff it up for the majority recreational miners, that "sneak" in & out, by being too obvious & disrespectful in their operations? Keeping a low profile & being respectful of the environment & others....has rewarded me with many an enjoyable time up a creek. I hope it can continue. For the one or two man operation that do mining for a living...this is a much bigger threat as all the land is claimed....where do they go when what ground they have is worked out??? Out of a job & livelihood Thanks Alluvial
