From: homesouth2 Sent: 29/05/2008 1:14 a.m. Re the 8" hose, I think I have found a source in China looks to be an 8'' version of the green pump delivery hose we use. prices quoted are looking to be about $10.50 a meter US$, far better than Keene's $19USa foot but the freight looks to be about the same again. If it works out OK we will be getting 5 x ten meter hoses, they usually have a 2000 meter minimum. If any one is interested in adding to the order give me a yell. I am not interested in making money out of it but I ain't gonna loose any either, meaning money up front. Hose from supplier is said to be dirty in outlook which I gather to mean it is old stock. They have offered to clean it for me. I can email a pic of their stack of hose if anyones interested. Cheers Mark

From: RKCNZ Sent: 29/05/2008 3:36 p.m. G'day Mark ( homesouth2 ), If the photo you have of the Chinese suction hose is too big to post, you can resize it online at pixenate.com/ so it will post. Or, you can send it to me by email ((rkcinnz(at)yahoo.co.nz)) and I will resize it and post a link to it in this thread. Most interested in seeing what its like. Regards, Rob (RKC)

From: RKCNZ Sent: 29/05/2008 9:12 p.m. G'day Mark (homesouth2), Now I've seen a photo I recognize the hose img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/Coochee/CIMG0839.jpg?t=1212043974 The big issue with this hose would obviously be flexibility. My guess would be that it would be even less flexible than the old Keene 8" dia suction hoses ... which were difficult to use in many dredging situations. It might be possible to use this hose (in 8" diameter) as a fast water hose. But it would not suit situations where any flexibility is necessary, such as in confined areas. If you could get one length to try first then that would be best way to go. Regards, Rob (RKC)

Hi Rob,
We usually work in deep and or fast water and too much flexibility is not what we are looking for as long as we can get an S shape into it in shallower water we are right. Had too many times getting blown back behind the dredge trying to hang onto what feels like a 30' p-----d off snake. then trying to get back to where you were. Yuk bad memories. We once used the the heavy rubber hose on a double 8" dredge we built, it took two us (fitter then) to lift it and the landcruiser if it got blocked and filled, it was good to be able to climb down it in fast water.
Any ways seems the hose comes in 8 meter lengths. They have offered me 6", 5" and 3" as well and am looking at packing hoses inside each other to get freight down. any body needs anything yell quick because order is going in soon. Want to get away the Buller is down to 17 cumecs and I'm off dredging with the trusty 5. Must just about be able to walk across it at the moment.
