Gidday Rob. Do you know if there are any articles on the Creek-bed gravel materials that the various size Dredges process. sorry, I haven't got a clue where to find this info. I know that a Forum article that I read may years ago said that Keene Engineering give this info in sales information and that it was actually done in controlled conditions with graded gravels. 5, 6 and 8 inch Dredges. Does anyone know the answers to this. Cheers. JET.

G'day Jet,
Yes, you are right, Keene published through-put figures in their advertising material many years back. And they were justifiably criticized at the time for coming to the published figures by putting sized gravel through their dredges in a swimming pool. In effect they were theoretical figures that were in no way related to real world dredge operation. Theoretical is a word that just about sums up Keens approach to about everything they did over many years.
I vaguely remember Dave McCracken writing something about this issue. I'll have a look for what I can find when I get the chance.
Regards, Rob (RKC)

G'day Jet, The theoretical throughput that Keene talks about to sell dredges will be no where near what the throughput is in the real world. DoC would be ill-advised to use those figures in the consenting process. The DoC bureaucrats involved in the consenting process for Production dredging projects would be helped if they read this article ( www.goldgold.com/gold-prospectingproduction-gold-dredging.html ).
