G'day,
An update from Minerals West Coast, as follows ...
I thought a quick up date may be helpful.
Since the meeting a number of things have been achieved.
.. There have been a good number of submissions lodged with MED and Crown Minerals in support of our position.
.. The new Zealand Minerals Industry Association has supported our position in their submission.
.. STRATERRA (the over arching minerals industry body based in Wellington) has also supported our position in their submission.
.. TV one news are here in Greymouth on Friday to do some filming and I am expecting an article that supports our position.
.. We have had a number of articles published in the local papers.
.. A good number of the black sand and suction dredge community have joined Minerals West Coast with a few more memberships to come yet.
I do not yet have a definition from Crown Minerals on what is meant by "small-scale machinery"
I have spoken with Chris Auchinvole and although he has not yet had the opportunity to speak with the minister or crown minerals directly about our concerns he still intendeds to and remains in support of our position.
I will forward more information as it comes to hand.
Regards, Rob (RKC)

G'day,
Latest from Minerals West Coast as follows ...
Last evening I had a phone discussion with Chris Auchinvole MP and he was able to tell me that he has met with the Minister of Natural Resources the Hon.Gerry Brownlee to discuss the current review of the Crown Minerals Act 1991.
I am pleased it inform you that after receiving many submissions , and representations from Chris , the Minister has assured Chris that there will be no change made to the requirement for small scale mining operations to hold minerals permits as they currently do.
This is good news and the outcome that we have been seeking.
Thank you to all those that lodged submission, worked with media and lobbied on our behalf. I believe that we have achieved our goal here by working together and using all the tools that we had available to us.
Well done every one.
Peter O'Sullivan Manager Minerals West Coast [/b]

Well done Peter and All who submitted. Small battle of the war won, now we just have to get rid of all the BS that Crown minerals demands year to year then they wont have to "waste time" on us. This nonsense was of their own doing. Bring back mines inspectors, the wardens court and get rid of all the BS of the RMA for small miners.

G'day,
Extract from agenda ...
Minerals West Coast Annual General Meeting Agenda 20 July 2011 Westport
Managers Report 2010 / 2011
The review of the Crown Minerals Act 1991
"The review of the Crown Minerals Act discussion document include a suggestion that minimalistic mining permits be done away with. This suggestion was of considerable concern to the beach sand mining community on the West Coast. Minerals West Coast met with the beach sand miners and assisted them in developing a range of submissions that they could lodge as individuals. MWC also organised radio, TV and newspaper coverage of the issue. I am told that the review committee were very surprised by the number of submissions that they received and the Minister has decided remove the discussion on minimalist permits from the review".

I must thank Minerals West Coast for their action in supporting the small miners and would say any one who has a mining permit should join this organisation ken
