New Zealand's Pioneer Submarine Boat

Since having written the above comment I have re read it and thought some more on this article - we in New Zealand appear rather tardy in our thinking. We. or at least the act thinks that a bottle dug frOm an old gold fields site is 'historical' and under the act an offense committed and some poor sod taken to court for breaking the act relating to 'historical sites' and the same went for a father and son I believe it was who removed gravel from an old tailings heaps - god had better be careful others wise by removing gravel from the tailings by sending rain and the resultant erosion of the tailings heap will get him, or her if gods a she, into strife!
And yet for all of this we completely miss the point - this country once had the rescourses to become 'the' capital for International tourist by protecting what is really important and yet Dept of Consitipation, Hysterical Places Trust and others leave to rot into the ground items of real value, old steam haulers, steam engines, boilers, log hauling winches, gold stampers, dredge remains...and yes...a submarine!

The remains of this submarine should indeed be brought back to Dunedin and displayed together with a full sized replica and placed in the Otago Early Settlers grounds within a gallery of its own but complete with other major gold fields machinery, sluice guns, stampers and so on.

Before it is too late we should be restoring the likes of Arrowtowns main street, blocking it off and restricting it to foot traffic alone, removing the tar seal and creating a true to life gold fields atmosphere as though time stands still. Note well that in Tombstone Arizona they have done that with the historic section where it all took lace in the good old days so that when you leave the paved road and go onto the historic section there is a great element of realism - Then we have our 'authentic' reproduction of a gold town, Shanty town - a great place but totally spoilt I think by the tarseal street which could have been made more realistic by making the street a clay coloured concrete or similar complete with fake ruts...excepting that the PC Brigade in OSH (Overbloated Selfcentred Halfwits) would consider it 'dangerous'.

Onone hand leaving the submarine lying where it is and comparing that with prosecuting someone for digging up a few bottles somehow shows to me just how shallow New Zealanders are and the more 'academic' they become the blinder they are...just my thoughts.
